21 Sep 2024: The Forums have been updated to phpBB 3.3.13. I hope this rectifies the unusual activity detected several days ago.
18 Sep 2024: There has been some unusual high volume traffic to the Forums causing it to crash. I don't think the volume is actual real crabbers. As a result, I have temporarily disabled the Forums so that I can investigate this issue further.

Crabsitting

Who should I trust to look after my hermit crabs whilst I am away?

Ideally you should find a fellow experienced crabber to look after your hermit crabs, but you will usually end up having to rely on someone who has never had hermit crabs before. It is up to you whether you want to keep the tank at your house or theirs. Your crabsitter must be reliable and able to follow simple instructions.

How can I make my crabsitter's job easier?

Purchase a pill dispenser and put a serving of food in each pocket. You can put a different food item in each pocket so that your crabsitter does not have to fuss over what to feed your hermit crabs for a particular day. You should mix a bottle of salt water ready for your crabsitter to use. Do not forget to label which bottle contains fresh water and which one contains salt water. If you have filtered ponds, your crabsitter should only need to add water once the water level drops, as long as you are not away for too long. Note down the ideal temperature and humidity ranges and remind the crabsitter to check the weather inside the tank with each visit. If possible, keep all the hermit crabs in one tank so that your crabsitter does not have to cater for multiple tanks. Your crabsitter will be more willing to do their job properly if it is straightforward and easy.
