So two months has turned into 4 months. He went down the end of august, it's now the start of January.
I haven't seen him in all that time. He had a shell with a long prong? On one end and it occurred to me that he may have got stuck because of it. He had gone down for a few days then up again previously though.
So I've pretty much made my mind up it's time to dig Mr Lazy up but just wanted confirmation I guess. I am dreading it to be honest.
So how long under is too long. When do I dig him up to see?

Re: So how long under is too long. When do I dig him up to s
Some hermies can take up to almost 2 months after digging down to actually shed their exo. But being it is 4 months I would need to slowly brush the substrate (as opposed to digging right in) just in case he is still down chilling and so not to harm him if he is. Good luck!!

I'm having a similar problem as well my hermie went in the sand more than 3 months ago, and the evidence that I know that my hermie is ok was noticing his tracks. However from what I've seen he's only come out two or three times. Luckily he's burrowed right by the side of the tank and some of the sand is brushed out so I can check to see how he's doing (I can sometimes see his antennae move) so I'm sure your crab is going to be fine.

Thanks, I haven't investigated further. I was going to get some new sand and do a deep clean while I was at it but in the few days till the weekend all four of the others vanished.
Now I'm waiting for them to all come up again because I've no idea where 3 of them are buried. Two have in the last couple of days.
Mine has been below since August and I've noticed nothing so have fingers crossed but not getting hopes up.

Well as long as your sand has stayed moist enough and your tank has the perfect humidity then all should be fine if you really have to check just brush off the sand like what ladybug said to look for them.

Re: So how long under is too long. When do I dig him up to s
Well the last of the other crabs came up today so I finally decided to face it and do my clean and look for mr lazy.
Sadly I finally found him and the legs missong the tips and were hollow inside so looks like he probably died not long after he went down. I was so hoping I'd never loose one but guess the odds were against him as we bought him in the middle of winter from an unheated tank
Know losing him in the first month'ish is common but still sad to confirm it.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. But he at least had a chance of survival when you took him home.

That's unfortunate... I took risks in the past too with Makemake and Chaos... they looked very miserable so I pitied and took them home, but they passed away within a month.

Aww I'm so sorry to hear that It was really kind of you though to take in a sick crab. He definitely had a better home with you.
