Not eating as much

Post by lilhoney42380 »

I just got 3 E's about a week ago and they seem to be doing fine. Some of the meals I've given them have been turkey burger with grapes which they tore UP and loved! I gave them eggs with seaweed scrambled in and broccoli which they loved and seemed to eat quite a bit of. I also gave them some shredded romaine lettuce and tuna which they also loved. Each meal has been sprinkled with cuttlebone to give them some calcium. They seem to be slowing down on their eating and the past two nights don't seem to have touched the food at all. My thinking is that in the pet store they were competing for food and so had to eat it quickly before all was gone by other crabbies but now that they realize they don't have to eat as quickly and food is more available they're slowing their eating down. Could this be true?

Possibly, but could be their bellies are full right now too? And as opposed to sprinkling the cuttlebone on their food each day, have you considered either putting a piece in the tank for them, or just making a little pile on a lid or such for them if they would want the calcium? It might be too that they sense the cuttlebone and are starting to shun it? Hermies are known not to eat the same food for a week or longer.

I'm thinking the poor things haven't had fresh food in an incredibly long time, and were gorging themselves. I agree, their crabby bellies may just be really full, and now they'll nibble the food you give them. Might have to look reaaaaalllly close to see little claw marks. :) But don't let that slow you down on offering a variety every day, it's such small bits that it isn't like 'wasting" it, and they definitely will pig out when they are ready.
I love seeing what the favorite is for the week. :)
