My new crab dug himself a little tunnel from the inside of the cocohut to outside, my little crab Ocarina is trying to get into the tunnel he's hiding in from the outside. Is it safe to let her go in there or should I keep draggin her away like I have been. Should I isolate the new one from the rest?
If I let her go down there and they begin to fight, not only will I not be able to tell if they are, I wont be able to help the new one without threatening his security underground. This is a very fragile thing, especially considering him being new, this day.

Re: Questionable Violence
Actually, yes, the new ones should always be isolated from the rest for about the first two weeks.
Once they've had their destress period and time for you to adapt the tank conditions from pet store conditions to your main tank (temp and humidity) conditions, then they should be given a dip in the fresh water pond before changing it, to help him smell a little more like the other crabs, and like he belongs there. From there, you should just let the crabs work out their own issues, unless it comes to a shell fight or large pincer grabbing (not pushing, that's normal dominance behavior, and should be overlooked).
That said, I personally would probably leave the new one alone and let the crabs work things out, since there wasn't a transition time, and my thought is that moving him to an isolation tank with all new surroundings may add to his stress.
What do you think Marie? Emma?

Re: Questionable Violence
Unfortunately I'm in a circumstance where I can't. My little sister accudentally broke my 5gal ISO (with no one in it) and I don't have enough money to replace it right now. I bathed them together and let him in there with cover on him.
He's okay now, he ate and drank and had a 'feeler fight' with Kyuubi and everything turned out okay.
He bured himself and Ocarina and Kyuubi are kinda 'sitting' near the pile, but I've got a 23hour watch on him right now.
He became 100% more active than in the store, walking around for about 5 hours last night, meeting the new tank.
I hope my sticky spot wont lead to overstress.

Re: Questionable Violence
Considering it sounds as though this hermie hasn't been there for even 24 hours I would say iso the newbie. (even if it was a couple days and it was being harassed by another) But being there isn't an iso, sadly it doesn't matter I guess...
Anyway to even separate that area where the newbie is trying to get some privacy at?

Re: Questionable Violence
I almost think that there is no need. The old crabs, like ocarina just sit near his little spot where he's buried himself. They're not digging or anything. In fact, I think he will be just fine. In the future of course, I would make sure I had an ISO but it was broken when I had gone out to get him.
I'll keep you updated if any real acts of bothering him occur, and if they were digging to him I would stop them. For now I think that he wont need to be in an ISO.
Sometime this week I'm getting a 25gal for them all to go in. Should I move everyone in or leave the new guy alone in the 10 gal. Maybe I should leave all of them in the 10gal until he's settled? I'm not sure...
