I just laughed until I got red in the face, Wai. Thanks - I needed that.

As for breeding, I don't think I've ever seen anything about it either. I have read quite a few things about the development after the crabs are actually fertilized eggs and from there through crab-form, but I don't know if I've read how it actually happens.

Crabs breed in mass spawning grounds and dump billions of eggs into the water. For the first month, they are like plankton, they then become crab-like and molt for the first time and become land-dwellers. You cannot breed them as pets, unless you are willing to buy a large, saltwater pool with a filtration system and a giant 10 foot tank. only one person has ever had baby crabs (I don't mean like that *| ) and they only lived for ten days. It was the woman who owned the crabbage patch website.

-.-

Not bad for a first post eh? ;)

Nope not too bad, but there was one who did too before Tammy kept hers alive for 10 days. BUT Jsrtist had also taken pictures of her zoea and shared them. This, as well as Tracy in 2002.

Don't forget about the gentleman in Australia who successfully raised Aussie crabs from start to finish - eggs to adults.

Emma, do you have a link to a website about this gentleman? I'm fascinated!

There was a link to the pamphlet he made on the Crabby Wiki site about the zoea that lived for the 10 days. Do you know the story I'm talking about? There was a link to the pamphlet, but he doesn't have pictures...just drawings. I'll poke around and see if I can find it.
