Please give us more information about your tank. What substrate are you using? What is the temperature and humidity inside the tank? How long have you had this hermit crab for?

Also, PLEASE use the search function. You could have found out what to do ages ago had you searched for the answers. Forums aren't places where you just leave your question and go. They are places that are full of information.

Some crabs are just shy - I have a tiny crab who takes at least 15 minutes of being in my hand before he starts to move inside of his shell, and it takes 20 minutes until he finally sticks his head out.

Are you talking about him not coming out when you handle him or even when he's in the tank?

I'm sorry Tiny has passed, but being he was bought on July 30th I doubt if it was due to PPS that he had passed:

Oh, so you had Tiny for over two months then? :S If you had Tiny for more than two months, then I doubt it was PPS.

Also, please tell us what your definition of "fine" temperature and humidity is. I assume you've been feeding them commercial hermit crab food products like those by ZooMed and HBH? If yes, stop offerring them now. They contain pesticides which not only kill insects, but crustaceans such as hermit crabs too (hermit crabs are not reptiles).

So sorry you lost tiny. :(

In case you are thinking you want another crab to replace him, you will really want to make sure everything is good in your tank, so the same thing doesn't happen to another crab.
It's best to find out why Tiny died before adding new crabs, and to make sure your other crabs will be okay too.

What is the temperature of the tank?

What is the humidity?

What kind of substrate are you using?

What do you feed your crabs?

what kind of decorations do you have in the tank? (If any wood, what kind? any metal?)

Hopefully we can help you figure it out and your other crabs will live for many years. :)

ok hon, good to know. I really don't know what hermit crab wood is, but if it looks like this: Half Log Hidey
Then it is made from a pine type wood that is NOT safe for hermies. Pine and cedar irritate hermies, and can even cause them to die when exposed for long periods.

That said, can you please answer the other questions?

If you don't know the temperature, or the humidity, just let us know.
If you don't have a thermometer or humidity gauge, you will want to let your parents know that you need these to help keep your hermit crabs alive.
Regular temperature and humidity are very important for hermit crabs.
They need the temp to be between 73 and 80*F, and the humidity should be between 70-80% pretty much.

Are you feeding your crabs commercial crab food, and if so, what kind, and what other foods do you also give them?
