Molting or Destressing

Post by JeniG68 »

I have 14 crabs 5 of which are relatively new. I had all the crabs in a 20 gallon at one point, but now have 10 of the 14 moved into a 50 gallon breeder tank. 5 of the crabs buried down in the sand/FB mixture and have been there for about 1.5 to 2 weeks. I originally had 5 buried in the 20 gallon after moving the rest to the 50 gallon breeder, but one dug up and I put him in the 50 gallon breeder with the other hermies. Two crabs are about the size of a nickel with the shell. The other two are about 1 inch with shell. I'm hoping they are just molting or de-stressing, but at what point do you start fishing around to see if the crabs are dead or alive? I'm figuring the answer is going to be for me to be patient and wait it out for at least another month. I keep the conditions (temp/humidity) the same as if they were up and around. I spray daily, change out food and water and have added some more shells in case they come up and want to change. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jeni G.

Yeah, I would just wait it out. I had to wait for 2.5 months for my small medium to molt. It was nerve wracking.
