Is he dead or fakeing it(again)?

Last month my other hermie died while Squirtle was under the sand molting and even after I got the other dead crab out and aired out the tank that week the tank started smelling again so I dug up Squirtle thinking he was dead but he wasn't. He stayed above the sand for five days and went back under 7 days later. Well now the tank smells again and I don't know if he is dead or not. gggrrr..... he is stressing me OUT!

well... he is still alive. I can hear him moving around so I gues I will wait until he comes up to get any other hermies. Do you think he is molting or was he just bored from being the only one in the tank?

He might be trying to molt. I would get him a tankmate soon.

You can get one any time as long as Squirtle isn't molting.

what happens if I get one while he is molting? Do you think I could dig him up and put him in a ISO then get new hermies? Or will that stress him out?

As long as he hasn't shed his exo, I'm sure he'll survive. I've done it before, and my hermies turned out fine. If he did shed his exo though, you're in trouble. I would just wait until he isn't molting or seeming like he's going to molt.

How do I know if he has shed his exo? He is under the sand so I can't see him.

Sometimes you can see under the tank, and look in their cave. But in this case, I'd probably wait until he's done.
