Calcium rich foods for molting

Post by iluvhermies »

Egg shells, coral pieces. crushed oyster shells (found in the bird section), whole starfish (crabs love starfish), barnacles, calcium chews (chocolate chewies sometimes used for indegestion), small bones(I would boil these with no salt first), calcium supplement powder (reptile section)(you don't need much though), broccoli, canned salmon with bones, dried beans and peas, greens (Must be cooked first with no salt), and sardines. The top food you can feed them is sea vegetables such as macroalgaes(seaweed), and microalgae(spirullina).

they have spirulina at the pet store. its a little pricey. i give it to my angel fish and kissy fish. but for crabs it lasts alot longer. the seaweed you can probably find at the supermarket in the fish section. its alot easier now to find stuff like that in the grocery store. i get alot of what i get my crabs from the addiction store. she has a whole kit of food and stuff for before and after moults.

In other words, don't expect anything to be found in the hermit crab section. XD
