Removing rubber

I recently bought a small basket of shells for $3 (cheap eh?). But I didn't realise that the shells were actually stuck together in a few places to hold the whole thing together. How I remove this rubber stuff glueing the shells together? It's simple rubber, but would it go away if I dumped it in hot water?

Well, it wouldn't go away, but it would melt off. First-hand experience. Give it a shot.
