whoopieee... my orange has molted : )

for a few days, my Orange has been quite shy.. every time i came close to peek at him, he hide quickly inside his shell..

well, anyway, one day when i came home, i saw Orange out of his shell (way way far).. i screamed " He is DEAD..!!" .. i almost cried..

but, upon closer inspection, there is something pinkish moving inside his old shell.. its ORANGE..!! awwwwwwww.... so cute.. he was purplish blue before shedding and he molted on the surface

the thing i saw was his old skin.. hehehe silly of me..

but he also smelled fishy though.. did urs smelled fishy too when they had freshly molted.. or is just my nose

Yes they have a smell to them thats why they say if you can get them into ISO before a molt is better that way the others have less chance of smelling them and digging them up to eat them. Have you moved Orange into ISO? You really should if you haven't and put in Fresh and salt water and his old Exo if he hasn't eaten it yet. Plus something for calcium I like egg shells myself. By the way congrats!

i had the same reaction with my zeus. he was behaving oddly and i was scared that he was going to die. he went into the hut so we turned it around so the opening was facign the wall and went to bed. when we woke up the next morning i made adam check on him bc i was scared to and he made me come into the room, there was zeus and his exo. it was connected to the bottom part of his shell still but he was inside really realy pale. we immediately moved him to ISO wiht his own hut, dried bloodworms with calcium, and a pond of salt water (calcium and salt water help harden the new exo). he's working on eating the old and is doing rather well. we won't put him into the big tank until we're sure he's back to normal (1-2 more weeks). after they molt they are very vulnerable (hence why they go under the sand). so just keep an eye on him and keep us updated! congrats!

HIHI Thanx z06vette387.. in a way, really felt honoured to have him molted. this had let me know that i am at least doing somethg right..

does yours finishes their exos everytime..? mine a left few especially the big claws.. he just didnt touch it..

the others..? he finishes them off as quickly as possible ;p

zeren, sounds like you did everything fine, especially if you have the calcium and salt water readily available. i think they molt out of their old exo pretty quick, the eating it is what takes the longest. the first time zeus molted, he came up, ate, drank, and dug up his exo and ate it above ground. it does take them awhile, zeus is still working on the legs and claw. it's the hardest, probly why it takes them the longest.
