Hermies should learn to share. The molter needed the exo more than the other crabs did lol. He needed the calcium. Be sure to give him calcium rich foods to help his new exo harden correctly.

It gives them the chance to get their exo stolen by another crab or even another crab to eat them while they are soft. That is what I know maybe there are other reasons to add that I am sure someone else will add it.

Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl

You're right. The main reason is the molter could be attacked and eaten before his exo is hard. They're very vulnerable when they first molt. If you even suspect a hermie to pull a surface molt, put them in ISO immediately. Keep them there until their exo is hardened completely.

It's awful when you're on vacation 6 hours away though. He's going fine now though. :)

I'm thrilled to hear that Jorgen is thriving and that hand-feeding managed to work.

Pleased to say that Jorgen is back in the main tank and doing great. He lost a fair bit of color for some reason. I give them lots of foods conatining carotene. Oh well. Just glad that he's alive!
