The posts here are a few years old, and the sources mentioned on the Crab Care pages are no longer available, so I'm hoping someone will provide guidance. I already bought Exo Terra Forest Plume moss, but I read here that without knowing the specific species used, I can't know if it is safe. The Amazon reviews include happy hermit crab owners, but I don't know whether their crabs are actually being harmed. So, does anyone have a definitive current source for moss which is hopefully inexpensive? Looking at sphagnum moss options, I see several use dyes and none seem to specify whether pesticides were used. Even if it says no chemicals, there is sometimes dye (like the Galapagos brand), and perhaps pesticides are sometimes used when growing the moss even if no chemicals were added subsequently.
My son's hermit crab, which my mother-in-law gave him as a surprise when we were in the middle of moving, has been fostered by a former neighbor for months while I try to wade through conflicting information on crab care. So, I will likely be asking a bunch of questions over the coming days. Thank you all in advance!

Re: Updated Moss Source/Guidance?
Welcome! I have only used non-branded sphagnum moss which I bought from a gardening store. It was free of any additives.
