In the crabs salt water pool. It's got real salt water in it and a pump/filter.
Do you think it would work? Is the stuff for salt water aquariums the same one they eat or do I need to watch out for anything?

There haven't been many (if any) crabbers trying that, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Perhaps research into the seaweeds that wild hermit crabs are normally exposed to and then grow those. I'm not sure which seaweeds are dangerous.

No seaweed is known to be deadly (except to corals) but I'd still be a tad nervous... I'd say kelp would be your best bet. Kelp comes from most places hermit crabs lived in. Here is some edible kind for sale: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod ... pcatid=662
But I wouldn't buy any personally. Its not as simple as throwing a plant in saltwater. To keep it alive you must buy a salt water testing kit and you would have to worry about parasites (almost ALL live seaweed is collected) and they need a great amout of space.......

The other problems would be space, you would most likely need a larger pool to keep kelp or seaweed alive. And you need special lights to keep the plants alive, and those lights and be exspensive.
