First Successful Molt!

Post by Ameretat »

I had seen a few weeks ago, what I thought was a pale pincher poking out of the sand. I resisted the urge to dig it up to see what it was really. Last night, I heard a clacker in the tank and found that our largest crab had finally came up and changed it's shell. It's color is so red and it's legs are really sharp on our hands. My youngest daughter and I were thrilled to see Casey came through this molt with flying colors. This is the first time we had a molt. Needless to say, I am giddy.

I have a question. We are getting close to moving our crabs into their new tank. I am concerned about digging up any of our little ones that come out at night but stay under the sand all day. Should I wait and take them out of the old tank when they emerge at night or dig them up?

CONGRATULATIONS on the successful molt!!!
I would suggest not to dig up those who are burrowed due to this could stress them. If you have a larger pond when they come up at night you can take them and give them a dip in the fresh water pond in the new tank and let them go to explore.
