Kay Kay's death
hi, im new to hermit crab paradise, and crabbing. 3 weeks ago my dad took me shopping, and we went into a store that sold hermit crabs. i instantly saw them and loved them. i asked my dad if i could get 1, but he said it was up to my mom. i asked her, and she said ok. i looked up hermit crabs, and found this website. i studied everything i could, and a week later i bought a 10 gallon tank, some sand, a fake log that looked like something they might like to climb on, food, a sponge, an under tank heater, and salt water and fresh water conditioner. the next day i bought 4 crabs, 3 medium, and 1 small for my little brother. the most active is Mo Mo, the largest. a week later, the second largest, Kay Kay, died. my mom and i could not figure out why she died. we figured it could have either been PPS, or a parasite. we naked the sand at 350 for an hour. we then bought a new crab, flash. i think flash might be a bully, because Mo Mo suddenly changed into a shell which i think was to big, since he changed the next day. any way, flash as been acting a little less...aggressive. a few days later Mr. Krabs just started sitting in one area all day, never moving. i finally found him in the saltwater bowl, same as Kay Kay. i have no clue what is happening. now, Hermie, the littlest, is sitting there, just like Mr. Krabs and Kay Kay. i dont want my last two crabs to die..........please help!!!!!!

You need to make a new topic for your situation. I believe I'm the only one who will even know you posted here.

Kel, I'm not sure what your question actually is. I'd recommend you copy and paste the questions found at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4 so we get a bit more of an idea of what might be going on. Please be as specific as you can - brand names for anything you've bought if you can as not all brands of products sold for hermit crabs are actually good for hermit crabs.

Re: Kay Kay's death
We need more information about your hermies, your set up as well as your crabbing method so we can attempt to help you resolve what maybe happening that is causing your hermies to pass.
One thing I noted from your last post is the ZooMed salt mix. Please get rid of it and buy a regular ocean/sea mix that is sold specifically for salt water fish tanks. If you are also using the ZooMed Part 1 to dechlorinate your tap water, buy one sold for fish that removes chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals.
Please answer the questions below so we hopefully can help you further. (these are from HCP)
What is the volume of your main tank?
How many hermit crabs do you currently have? How big are they?
How long have you had the hermit crab(s) that you are concerned about?
What substrate or combination of substrates are you using? How deep is it?
What do you feed your hermit crabs?
Do you use distilled, bottled or tap water? If you are using a dechlorinator, what brand is it? Does it state to remove all heavy metals, chlorine and chloramines?
What brand of sea salt are you using to supply your hermit crabs with salt water?
What heat source are you using and where is it positioned?
Have you calibrated your thermometer(s) and hygrometer?
What is the air temperature range and humidity inside the tank? If you are using an under tank heater, what is the temperature range of the substrate (it is likely to be different to the air temperature range)?
Do you have any photos of your tank or hermit crab(s) of concern? If yes, please attach them to your post.
