Re: Pics of some of the hermies

he's not currently...I have no way to put anything where he is at without disturbing him or one of the other two (whom I think is getting ready to molt). The 3rd guy has also started to slow down, and seems to be staying on the other side of the tank. I wonder if he's getting ready to molt soon as well.

Skip has eaten all of his exo now except for the big claw and a leg and a half. His new big claw is starting to turn purple, and he's getting darker from what I can see :)

The other 2 have not disturbed him at all.

I wish I could separate him off...just don't have a way to with the spot he picked. The way he dug the sand out left a whole that his Exo dropped into so only he could get to it.

if it is in a corner, glass from a picture frame should work, if in the open more the cut 2 liter bottle should work.

He's neither in a corner nor out in the open. He is up against the glass inthe front with one side of his shell propped against the glass and the other side resting on the sand at the edge of his little hole. The back of his shell is resting on the moss pit dish. :/ I have no idea how to iso him off from the others the way he is.

Another molter?

Post by Gizaroo »

So I came home tonight and went to change water/food in the crabbies tanks. I looked into the corner of the 5.5 gal tank, and saw this mound, with a hole on top, in the corner of the tank behind Skip (He's still hanging out, literally, in the area he moulted. His big claw is turning purple now :) I think he's going to be very nice looking!) Part of the mound is balance on the moss pit dish, which Skip is also balanced on. Silly crabs...I have no way of isolating either of them. And I think the third guy may possibly be getting ready to moult soon as well? (The brown shell to the right of the picture is Skip)

Here's a pic of what I saw...it's not super detailed, as my camera does a horrible job in low lighting...

If he's against a flat piece of the glass in the tank, you could use two pieces of glass from two different picture frames and use them to make a triangle with the glass he's up against. He'd be in a V shaped area and separated from his tankmates.

Skip

Post by Gizaroo »

I think Skip is doing fine now. He looks like he's pretty much all hardened up and is starting to be more out of his shell and investigating things. He took a few steps from where he was at this morning. His legs are all furry and his claws are sharp, and his new legs look great! He's got his little feeder claw back, as well as the walking leg right behind it! His shell looked big on him before...now it looks huge lol.

I think my other lil guy (the other one from Petsmart, in a brown shell like Skips) may also be getting ready to molt. Will have to go see if I can find a piece of glass from a frame to section him off. He's in a corner behind the moss pit and the fresh water dish, and has been trying to tunnel (which amounts in him just covering himself up because there's not much sand. The photo I posted yesterday of the mound is where he was...that has since been demolished, and he is now right behind the water bowl covering himself up again. I'm assuming it was the third crab walking around that maybe did that...but I am unsure. I think I'm going to find some glass and try to partition the tank into 3 areas. Looks like I have some rearranging to do. The third lil crab, in the green turbo, has made himself a hole under the piece of corkwood. I'm thinking he may be in pre-moult as well.

I have the tank divided into three (unequal) parts now. Found an old plexiglass piece of a photoframe and cut it into 3 pieces. Skip and the lil guy with the green turbo shell have the bigger halves of the tank, divided somewhat lengthwise, and the other lil brown shelled guy has the end of the tank.

Skip looks wonderful! He is nice and hairy and has very sharp little toes. His two new legs look great! He's exploring the shells on his part of the tank right now :) Maybe he'll finally choose one! (I can hope can't I? lol) He's now a light Orange color, and the tops of his "knees" are a deep red. His big claw is a pretty purple color.

He's now testing his boundaries on the new walls lol.
