IMO I don't really think there is a bad hermie owner? I think it lays more in what would be considered "Uneducated". Now IMO there is also such a thing as a owner who does become educated by researching. (well, depending on which sites they read because there is some bad info out there too... which IMO does not make them a bad owner when they are trying to learn about their new pet) But then when one does learn what is needed to keep their (what was SUPPOSE TO BE CHEAP) pet comfortable and thriving may not be able to afford what all is actually needed to do so by. So IMO to be on a budget and not able to afford what is needed doesn't make them a bad owner either?
Is there really such a thing as a bad owner? To a degree yes... once I saw a video on Youtube where some were videoing eating hermies alive.....

I think the only "bad" owners of any creatures are those who are intentionally cruel. Like ladybug said, sometimes it's a matter of not being educated about what hermies need and/or not being able to afford it; both of which have applied to myself. Once you KNOW what not to do, and then just don't care.....that would make you a bad owner. Or like the people who have dogs and then claim not to realize their dog might need to have water every day or come in out of the snow. If you tease or torment an animal, that is bad. I didn't know about painted shells being bad until recently, I just thought it was a way A: to "dress" or decorate an animal that you can't do it any other way :D , or B: a way for pet stores to get more of your money. I also assumed that "hermit crab" food sold by a pet store (where pets are their business) should be able to be trusted. Obviously, I was wrong.
