I found Sherbert's shell today with only the abdoman left I looked to see whether I could find the rest of him, but I only found 2 legs or exo legs.
My theory is that fifi, my jumbo attacked Sherbert while he was molting. Fifi is the world best excavator. Nothing ever looks the same and I have to find the food bowl all over again.
I hope after I add some more substrate and climbing toys, Fifi may leave the remaining medium crab alone. I would love some advice
How often do you feed your crabs protein and calcium sources? Oftentimes this is why crabs will eat each other like this. They need protein and calcium daily.
Hermies do need a well rounded balance diet. Hermies do need a chitin source in their diet too. (as well as the other nutrients) Where as many chitin sources are also considered protein, not all protein sources contain chitin which is found in the hermies (and other insect) exo's as well as some plants.
Unfortunately even with a well balanced full proof diet with all the needs known there are still occasions where cannibalism does happen anyway.
