He said it's just dung. But he did find that one of my new Hermies has an extra limb. He said it's nothing to worry about just to clean the once in awhile to get it out of there shell. He works in a lab where they study aquatic and marine animals and he has study hermit crabs mostly so I trust him. Thanks for all the help.

Where is this 'extra limb' on your hermies? And where is this lab he works at? I ask because I'm interested in maybe studying crabs at some point down the road.

The extra limb is growing off his small claw. He works in Georgia, where I'm staying. I'll get pictures next time I see him. At his lab they have had hermit crabs that are as big as fist. Also last night I got two new crabs. I will not be on tomorrow because I'm going back to Iowa.

Question, what did he feed the baby hermies? (you mentioned lettuce, mangos and eggshells?
For him to say what the brown gel substance is with certainty, did you take your hermies to Georgia with you from Iowa? If so how did you transport them? (did you fly or go by vehicle?)
