My hermit crab that i have had 6 years has started to stay halfway out of her shell and looks to be a more gray color than she has ever been. Any ideas on helping her are welcomed. The only thing that I can think of that has changed in her environment was that a few weeks ago i used a lot of bleach in my apartment and Im wondering how to counteract the effects, if this is the cause of her sickness. Please help!!! The vets in this area do not know much about hermit crabs and are not willing to give advice.

Not many vets (even herp ones who care for reptiles) know much about hermies. The bleach might be having impact on her unless you covered her tank totally so no odor could get in her tank.
But could it possibly be she is about to do a surface molt?
What is you temperature? (air temp and crabitat temp?)
What do you feed her?
What is the humidity level and have you tested your humidity gauge to see how accurately it is reading?
What are you using as a substrate and is it damp or dry?
What ocean/sea water mix do you offer in her pond?
What brand do you use for a dechlorinator, or what type of water do you offer her?

Re: help sick crab
never use harsh chemicals like bleach around hermies. it makes them VERY sick. if there is a place in your apartment that doesn't have bleach put her there.
