Energy efficient? It's not a fluorescent bulb, is it? Those emit very little heat.
Do keep in mind that bulbs tend to dry out the humidity more than UTHs. Your tank is a bit smaller than my one, so I would suggest a bulb of no higher than 25 watts.

Re: ??? HELP ???
What do you mean by 'regular' bulb?? Light bulbs you would use in your house aren't going to work for crabs. They need a reptile heat bulb.

Re: ??? HELP ???
It's also not a good idea to have a regular light on the crab tank all the time as the crabs do need a day and night cycle, and will not get it with the uv rays from a regular light bulb. Best to get a night time heat lamp for animals that you can use during the day as well if needed.

Re: ??? HELP ???
How long have you had him for? He may be suffering from Post Purchase Stress (generally, effects last around 60 days after purchase). If so, please read here and give him some time alone - don't handle him or trip over him (not sure how you managed to trip over a crab?) for at least a two month time period.
And if you've had him a while, give him some time in the tank to make sure he doesn't stress over something. Don't handle him until he's acting normally again.

Re: ??? HELP ???
If you are able to provide natural light during the day in the room where the tank is, it is not necessary to have a light at all. I do not have any on any of our tanks, but we do get plenty of natural day light in the room we have the tanks. At night a light is not needed at all, hermies do not need it. The light is only used so a crabber can view their hermies at night, unless they are using a light as a warming source. Some use a UTH as a warming source and do not need lights at all. (but again they are able to provide natural day light) There are also some who use a UTH but also need to supplement a little more heat to the tank by using a light. But if one uses a light they must have a moon glow bulb with black rare phosphorus coating for the night.
