why isn't meat popular

Post by Jaci »

i've tried both chicken and shrimp (including the tail). i always try new foods on the weekends, so i can watch the crab's reaction to it. they didn't touch either meat. i don't understand it. they love their fruits and veggies, especially grapes, but the meat didn't go over well. i cooked the chicken myself, to be certain of no preservatives/chemicals. any suggestions on what else to try, either different meat or a different way of cooking the meat? what about organic foods? i know unsweetened applesauce is on the list, so what about baby food?

I took a piece of boneless skinless chicken breast and steamed it with nothing added in the water. I shredded it into pieces and my crabs loved it. I tried some tuna though and they did not touch it

it's possible that they are eating some, you might not know it...well, if you observe them 24hrs each time you add the food, maybe you will see them eating it?? i really don't know. keep trying different things, like cutting up the meat and miing it into eggs and lettuce (i do this sometimes. lol).

i add foods one food at a time, i didn't know you could mix them together. so i could mix romaine lettuce, hard boiled eggs, and some kind of meat in their food dish? that's interesting. ok this is going to sound....weird.....but how do you steam chicken? is that the way to cook all the meats for the hermit crabs?

it's the best way i guess, i really don't know. Julia Crab would though. It's just less greesy so it's best. I don't know how to steam chicken...my dad does! ( *| )

I mix food all the time. With new stuff i like to keep them seperate. Each nioght i try to have 2-3 varity of food out, if they sound good together, i mix them. You can make fruit salads and stuff for them (apples, lettuce, grapes, blue berries and such).

i'm so going to have to try that! adam's got the 'custody' of the crabs now, but he's good about feeding them fruits and other different foods.

The way I steamed my chicken was just take a pan with a lid and put water in the pan and the chicken place the lid on it DO NOT ADD ANYTHING ELSE. Just keep an eye on it and add more water if you need to. When th emeat is fully white it is done.

Yes use decholrinized water and I only start with a small amount of water not fully covered up. You can take the chicken and cut it into pieces and keep it in a ziplock bag. I would even think that it could be frozen and taken out and thawed as you use it. I am not sure about that part though.
