New Tank!
Last night when I came home, I saw that my ten gallon tank was in the upstairs hallway. Which really freaked me out because my parents dont like my hermit crabs and I thought that they were going to make me get rid of them. When I went into my room, there was a new 30 gallon tank in there as my early birthday gift from my parents! I am so happy, I'm going to have so much fun putting new stuff in the tank! I'm just wondering, how many hermit crabs can I fit in a 30 gallon tank?

Re: New Tank!
Congratulations on the larger tank, but did you also get what is needed to keep it warm and monitor the temp and humidity ranges too? (as well as enough new substrate?)
There is no hard set rule as to how many hermie per gallon is ok without over crowding. One needs to take into different factors, size of hermies, tank decorations as well as species.

Re: New Tank!
Thanks for the advice. The tank came with a heat lamp which I am turning on and off according to temperature. Also, I have a UTH that kept my ten gallon tank at a consistent 86 degrees. So I am leaving the UTH on all the time and turning on and off my heat lamp. When the temperature reaches 88 degress, I turn off the lamp, and I turn it on again when the temperature goes down to 83 degrees.

Re: New Tank!
Congratulations on the new tank, how exciting for you! I remember how jazzed i was when I got my bigger tank!
As for the temp, 88 is a bit too warm for them. Can you bring that down to about 80? Do you also have a humidity gauge? That much heat will also dry the tank out a lot.
The heat lamp - is it a night glo bulb? Remember, hermies need their day/night cycle, so UV rays from a regular heat lamp will disrupt that if you are leaving it on at night.
I'm super sleepy right now so just giving basics, hope hit helps! You'll have those guys set up with a great tat before long!

Re: New Tank!
I do have a humidity gage. My humidity is perfect considering I have lots of wet sponges everywhere to keep that up. The heat lamp is not a moon glow lamp, but I turn it off around seven o clock every night if it's not already off. Thanks for the info!CrabbyJo wrote:Congratulations on the new tank, how exciting for you! I remember how jazzed i was when I got my bigger tank!

Re: New Tank!
Thanks, it is pretty exciting, though I think that my parents are regretting it because I'm already asking for a lot of new toys and stuff.
