Re: ANTS IN THE TANK
You can buy ant traps at almost any grocery store that have tiny tunnels for the ants to go into that your cat can't get into. I'm not sure if they're hermie safe or not...I'd probably recommend putting them right outside of the tank or even on top of it.
How are the ants getting into your tank? You'd probably want to put the ant trap right in their path before they made it to the tank.

Re: ANTS IN THE TANK
the ants are getting in through a little hole in the lid of the tank, we found one of the places where they were getting in the house and sprayed it with ant killer (dont worry its on the other side of the house so it wont kill the crabs), but im sure there are other places that they are getting in the house. i havent had any in the tank today yet, but after i clean the tank it takes only a day or two for the ants to get in there again
thanks for ur help

Re: ANTS IN THE TANK
Cover up that hole while you have no ants within the crabitat and see if it prevents you from getting any more in there.

Re: ANTS IN THE TANK
Unfortunately you do need to provide for air circulation within the tank or you will end up with a molt/bacteria complication next. As well as the hermies do need fresh air (oxygen) within the tank to breath properly.
Here is an article about ants and other pests:

and a post from another who had a potential ant problem:
ants
Please be careful with ant traps too. They do give off an odor that maybe appealing to cats as well. Make sure they are located where there is no possibility of the cats being able to get to them.
Edited to add: a deep clean is in order as well because the ants will burrow in the substrate.

Re: ants
Ants are NOT good and will find their way within the tank. Ants have also been known to feast on molters during their weakened state. You need to find out where they are coming from and get rid of the source. Please read this article:

Re: ants
I think you should get all the ants out that are in there now, find where it's coming from and stop it. Do you have a lid? Because if not you should really get one because it will help prefent flys and ants. Are they gone now?
