Crab molted--missing leg?

I have lots of crabs molting like krabby katie does and two of them surfaced today. I'm almost positive Sandy came up. She's the only on that's pale like eugene so it has to be her. And when I got home from work I saw that Philip was also done molting and he came up. They're both very active and happy and they climbed all the way to the top of the tank. When i looked at Philip i saw that he was missing a piece of his leg! Is that supposed to happen? Does anyone know why he would be missing a piece of his leg right after a molt? does it hurt the hermie at all?

Losing a limb or part of a limb does happen in a moult, but since Philip only lost a segment, it should regenerate after his next moult (assuming he doesn't lose the rest of his leg). We aren't Philip, so we can't tell whether it hurts or not.

lol ok. thanks Wai. I didn't think it caused them pain but it looks pretty uncomfortable.

I don't think it hurts them, their exo's are pretty tough.
