new crab losing legs, poor thing

Post by brodie74 »

We have had our crabs for about a month, 2 smaller PPs (Ron and Clamps) they are happy healthy, running about and eating well, we monitor humidity and temp, and are having a great time with them, so we recently added a new hermie to our home (a week ago), a bigger PP (Dougal). this AM when i peeked in to say hello, i noticed that the new fella was in the same spot he'd been in since yesterday AM, and it looked like one of his legs was...hanging out of this shell, so we picked him to investigate and the leg FELL OFF, oh no, and to make it even worse, 3 more legs followed suit. We have him isolated from everyone else, can it be possible that he is still alive, and can he live like this? I understand that the stress from petshop/new tank can be too much for them sometimes, but i don't know how to proceed...
THANK YOU!

i think you should just keep him in iso in a dark place and check on him a few times a day and see if anything changes..he prolly lost his legs from stress and if he keeps alive until his next molt he will get new legs so i think all u can do is keep him safe and in a dark place and just wait

Yes, isolate him as bennynlewie said.

I got a new hermie for my son's bday last week.. he's a big PP, and I had noticed one leg didn't quite look right when he's hiding in his shell... well.. it fell off tonight.. I'm glad that it's only one leg, but I'd never experienced this before so it caught me off guard.. I'm hoping he'll be okay :(
