Yeah, waiting is painful, but it seems that it's the only way to allow a hermit crab to survive a moult. If they're in ISO, they should be fine. When I still had hermit crabs, I only had one successful moult by Neptune and she was the only moulter which I didn't try to interfere with.

Last time I tried helping people in the pet store, I got told off and the lady refused to believe me that woodshavings was no good. *sigh* -.-

When i sit in from of the main tank and look at all the little hermies i can hear Gumby moving around in iso right next to them. It makes me feel better to know he's moving around

LOL Wai! I know what you mean! I usually NEVER say anything unless asked but the conversation between the girl and her mom seemed like they were trying to figure out the right way of taking care of their hermie. They were trying to figure out what kind of substrate to use and they saw me picking up some hermie treats and just kinda watched what I was looking at on the shelves. I used that as an "in" to help them. We talked about hermies for quite a while and I explained I am very new too and then told them what I learned on this website about substrates, temps, humidity and tank size. The mom asked for the website address so I gave it to her and told her to read everything she could find. She and her daughter seemed very happy. I was just happy for their crabby when they went for the 10 gallon tank and ecoearth that I pointed out. I hope all goes very well for them and that they find their way here. ;)

Hermielove19, how did you know what we were doing??? You gotta spy camera on our ISO??? :D We have been doing that and it does make us feel better, especially my son. He heard Hermie move a little the other night and came right out to get me so I could hear the movement too. Of course, there was silence by the time I got there but I have heard him at other times. It is such a relief but anyone watching through the window while we sneak past a covered tank would think our whole family is deranged! 8| :D Seriously, I do wonder how much longer it's going to be before Hermie starts eating and drinking again. He finished his molt and the exo has been gone for several days now.

lol i kind of stumbled upon it by accident. I heard him moving around under the sand and i have mostly eco earth in the main tank. I get so worried. any little thing helps :) I check on him every day to see if he's out even though i know he may be down another two weeks. I miss him! i want him to come out.

I guess Hermie is officially finished with his molt...Ricky found him out of the trench and chowing down in the food bowl! Finally! :D He is still a bit shy when we come close to the ISO but we are hoping that it won't last long and he will soon be back to his friendly self. He has checked out the new shells but hasn't tried on anything new. I guess he feels his old shell suits him best even if it is a little small for him! ^) I'm just so relieved that he is fine!

Thanks for all the advice and support! What I learned here probably saved Hermie's life! Before I came here, I didn't know anything about ecoearth, keeping the ISO dark, or anything else about a molting crabbie! Talk about a cram course! (reminds me of my old school days! LOL) Keep up the wonderful website and education! There are other crabbie owners in need of help! 8| :D

That's good news! Glad everything went well. Hopefully you'll have many more successful molts to come. :)
