exoskeloton

Post by hermit2008 »

I threw away the exoskeloton Is there anything I can put in to replace it when it wants to eat?
Do I need to put water or regular food in the isolaton cage?

Yes, isolation units should not be missing anything essential that you would put in the main aquarium. Go to the fish section in a pet store and buy some spirulina and some calcium carbonate powder to sprinkle it on top with. Meat cooked in dechlorinated water with sea salt is also fine, but not with table salt and tap water.

I would also put some egg shells in there. Mine love egg shells and it is good for helping them to harden.

For the egg shell, do you cook it first and if so how do you cook an egg shell? Should I just hardboil some eggs and then give them the shells instead of throwing them away? My husband will like if I made hard boiled eggs for the hermits then he can eat the eggs and give the shells to them. He thinks I am weird that I feed them human food and cook for them.

don't worry my family also thinks im nuts. you can hard boil the eggs and try and get the shell off in one piece or just mush the whole thing up together and add some oyster shells or cuttlebone to it for calcium. i made scrambled eggs for my hermies once. thats when you would want to boil the eggs shell separate if you were going to feed it to them.

That is a good idea, make a hard boiled egg and just mush the whole thing in one piece then adding stuff to it. I like that idea, once they come back up I will be doing that.

i haven't tried it myself but if everythings boiled everything should be clean and sanitized enough for them to be able to eat. i made scrambled eggs servedin the shell with a little bit of cheese and some dried mealworms on top and they loved it. thats how i knew they liked eating the shell.
