Okinawa Main Island |

11 March 2017 In 2016, I only explored the southern half of Okinawa Main Island. This year, I explored the northern and central areas too. The weather in March was still cool. Last year when I visited Okinawa in April, it was much warmer. I found a population of C. rugosus with a small number of C. purpureus in a small beach in Onna.

12 March 2017 I went to Okinawa World last year, but did not enter the habu snake exhibit. This exhibited displayed a wide variety of reptiles and to my complete surprise, even a land hermit crab display! The crabs were a bit overcrowded, but at least the environment was warm and humid. There was a jumbo C. brevimanus and C. cavipes in there. I also saw C. rugosus and C. purpureus in there, but no C. violascens or C. pseudorugosus.
