Both of my hermit crabs have buried, and I am unsure what to do about it. I know not to dig them back out in case they are molting however I fear that I have not had them long enough for them to molt. If they are molting what do I need to do for a successful molt?
Also since I am in a dorm and my room does not have air conditioning I have had more trouble with keeping the hygrometer at the proper levels. Could this be the reason as to why they have buried?
I have had the one hermit crab Houdini for a month tomorrow. I bought him at the boardwalk, and the other hermit crab, who I bought at a pet store I have had for 3 weeks.

Re: Both of them have buried
Now that they are buried it is best to leave them alone in case they are moulting. Since you have had them such a short while you do not know when they last moulted. For all you know they may have just been waiting for the right conditions to moult and now you have provided it. The best thing to do now is to wait, keep a bowl each of clean freshwater and the right type of saltwater(not hermit crab saltwater) with food available in case they come up when you are not around or at night while you are sleeping. And while you are waiting it might be a good idea to read through the crab care section on this website and at hermitcrabpatch.com. Both have lots of good info, and it would be a good way to check and make sure you are providing the proper conditions for your crabs.
They may also just be buried for fun, mine will bury themselves for a couple days at a time sometimes and come back up.
