Females have gonopores (small dots) on the walking leg closest to their shells on the underside of their bodies. Males do not. For pictures, see the gender ID section of our gallery.

thanks i found that at least three of my crabs are females

Actually, both males and females have gonopores, but males have them on their second pair of mini legs (located deep inside the shell), while females have them on their second pair of walking legs (the larger of the two pairs used for walking).emmac350 wrote:Females have gonopores (small dots) on the walking leg closest to their shells on the underside of their bodies. The easiest way to identify the gender of your hermit crab is to check whether it has gonopores on its second pair of legs. If it does, then it is female, otherwise, it is male.
