Lots of questions about molting!

Post by anniehorsekrab »

I have never experienced a hermit crab molt, so I just have a few questions:

* What are the signs that tell you that your hermit crab is going to molt?
* When you know your hermit crab is going to molt, what do you do?
* Do you need a seperate tank for iso?
* How long does molting take?
* How do you know if they're dead or molting?
* What are some things you can do to help your hermit crab have the best possible molting process?
* What are some possible things that can go wrong?
* What SHOULDN'T you do while a crab is molting?
* Do you need to have certain tank conditions for your crab to molt?

I know it's a lot of questions, but please help if you can! I love my hermies!

From my memory, every question you asked has been answered in the Moulting section of our Crab Care section. Next time, please consult the Crab Care section before asking a question on the Forum.
Hermit Crab Paradise > Crab Care > Moulting

Also, since you are having them as class pets, make sure your teacher knows how to look after hermit crabs properly. Ask him/her to join this Forum if he/she needs help.

So far from what I have read about the classroom hermies not much is known there either. To have a class room pet, the teacher should also have the knowledge about the pet that he/she and the class students are responsible for. If this was known, the answer to the questions above should already be known. Possibly these questions should be homework for the class to research the answers to, and then the teacher check the answers with what she/he had learned from here and possibly other quality sites.
