Well i've only had my hermit crab for one day and i don't want it to have a boring diet...I love the website and it helped me to make my habitat up a bit...but i'm a bit low on money at the moment and don't have much fruit in the house because we have finished itall and don't go grocery shopping until wednesday...can i feed my hermie potatoes..it has no salt on it just fresh potatoes which i have boiled in declorinated water..I would love it if you would Email me about this but if not just post..

No, you cannot feed them potatoes. I can't remember who told me but it's not safe.

It's not so much that it isn't "safe", it's just rather pointless. Potatoes are very starchy vegetables that have little nutrition in any part except the skin, which crabs won't eat. So, it's better to give crabs colorful fruits and vegetables that at least have some vitamins and minerals as well as a fine taste.

hehe ya like once i learned the IHOP standed for International House of Pancakes..they are the same place...who would have know? 8) :D :P ;)

Well, I respectfully slightly disagree.

Crabs aren't too fond of potatoes, unless you mix in a little non-dairy margarine, but potatoes (especially organic ones) have important trace minerals that crabs really need, being especially high in potassium.

But you can give them bananas and carambola for that, and they prefer the fruit anyway. ;)
