I've returned... I havn't been here for a while, but I snapped some pictures with my phone if anyone wanted to see the conditions at my local petco.

Re: [PICTURES] The Hermit Crabs at my Petco
GREAT pics for a phone. That set up is lame. At the Petco by my house the hermies have a huge enclosure like the birds and they have wood and plants. The only bad thing is the food they eat. I wish Petcos had better set ups for the animals. I don't like how they don't have any other shells either.

Re: [PICTURES] The Hermit Crabs at my Petco
I agree with HermieLove19 about the Petco set up being lame. The ones in my local area have the large hexagon tanks with Eco earth as a substrate, both water ponds as well as vines, hidey log, with humidity and temp gauges. Now food... well it is the pellet hermie food, but the set up itself is good. Anyway you can contact Petco's cooperate office regarding the set up in your area?

At least Petcos have moved onto coconut fibre! Here, it's either wood shavings, gravel or crushed coral. I only know of one store that uses sand as bedding.

No, there aren't any Petcos in Australia. I meant that I've never seen a store use coconut fibre for hermit crabs and I only know of one store that currently uses sand.

I agree that it's better than any other I've seen. I mean, there's good humidity, hides, both salt and fresh water... The substrate depth and commercial food are the only bad parts.
I have 13 hermies, and 30-something pets in all (it varies).

Re: [PICTURES] The Hermit Crabs at my Petco
I do have to say Petco is the only store in my area that keeps the crabs clean and offers salt and fresh water. Not the best but better then those airy wire cages and the torture tanks at some of the other pet stores Ive been to

Re: [PICTURES] The Hermit Crabs at my Petco
i have noticed that the last few pet stores ive been to, have all had sand as bedding, but one of the pet stores, had some jumbo crabs, that were literally bursting out of there shells. around the entrance of the shells, it was starting to get all cracked, and chiped, and they only had about three other shells that might possibly fit the crabs.
that is the only bad thing i have seen in a pet store, apart from the painted shells, in ages,
