Re: hermit out of shell and molting!
Nothing, make sure the temp and humidity are in proper ranges... To disturb a hermie while they are molting is harmful or can even be lethal.

Make sure that none of your other crabs can get to her. Whether it means moving your other crabs to iso or just sectioning her off in the tank, she should be kept away from any other tankmates.

Hermit crabs may come further-than-usual out of their shells when moulting.

Re: hermit out of shell and molting!
He is in his shell, that is probably his exoskeleton, which he will eat. Do NOT touch him.
It's important to separate him with a sheet of plexiglass or if you have to cut off the top of a 2 liter soda bottle, take the lid off, and place it over him so the other crabs don't get to his exo and eat it. He needs it to build his strength and help his new exo harden. If you have any more questions, post away, but don't touch him, make sure his temp and humidity stay in the ranges they should stay in, and he may be okay.

Don't bake the moulter in heat, as it interferes with their hardening process. Keep the temperature at the low end of the ideal range.

Re: hermit out of shell and molting!
It sounds like your crab has passed. I'm so very sorry.
When you said she was shriveled, you didn't mention her abdomen. If she were molting, she would have been moving and shedding the outer exoskeleton.
How long did you have this little crab?
Please make sure your tank conditions are right for your crabs, what kind of substrate do you have? How do you keep your tank in proper heat ranges? How do you keep the humidity up?
I know it is hard to make everything right for your crabs, and sometimes we just can't seem to help them.
There are a lot of reasons your little crab could have died, if you can share some of your information we might be able to help you so it doesn't happen to any more of them.
Again, I'm very sorry to hear your crab died.
