I am ....

Post by Chermo »

adopting hermit crabs either tonight or tomorrow. I am so excited. I forgot to ask what species they are but I don't really care, I am getting either 2 or 3. I am so excited. The drive is 1 hour there and 1 hour back. I am going with my KK, I have asked that she give me some of the sand in her tank so the crabs still have something familiar when I bring them home. I have one of those silver blankets from the camping section of Walmart that everyone talks about to wrap the KK up in and I am bringing the spray bottle. Do you have any other suggestions on what I should bring with me to give them a comfortable drive home?

Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl

I got them, I now have 6 crabbies. The huge one is Puppy, one is Froggy and the other one is Ellie. I am so excited. I was not ready for a Large I need shells to fit it. I will have to also get bigger water dishes. I wish she would have told me that she had a large maybe it is even a jumbo. Either way I will just get deeper water dishes and some larger shells. Froggy already changed from a cool shell to a green one so it fits his/her name.

You could probably use Rubbermaid containers for the water and use either a net or a piece of wood or some sort of homemade "stairs" out of the waterbowls for your little guys. That's what I'm thinking about doing...going with a 3 or 4 inch deep water pool and then making my own stairs for them to escape on.

My tank doesn't have that much room. I am going to the stores to see what I can find today sometime. I also have to get Puppy 1 1/2 in opening shells. I measured his hole in his shell last night and it was 1 1/8" the rest of my crabs are in 5/8" or less. I have a few with openings of 1" but they are not big enough, he was looking at them last night and basically threw them out of his way. I have to see what I can find for water dishes. I can't use square containers so I may have to see what other size containers they have and I can use aquarium sealant to maybe glue pebbles to it in like a stair formation and use that but I have to see what I find today.

Oh they are so adorable!
I can't wait to get mine into a bigger tank with lots of stuff so they come out more, and where I can LOOK at them at night when they're out and about hehe.
Congrats, what a nice little trio you have there. :)

I also finally found the flukers jacuzzis to day. I got the medium ones and put one in each end of the tank. They are great. They do not have a flat bottom though so they were kinda hard to get set in the sand right so once the other 3 come up I will be moving them so they don't tip so easily. I have them kinda level but I am sure they can be more level if I tried harder.
