flowering trees
Just a reminder to harvest your flowering trees now or you'll miss your opportunity! Now is the time for crabapple and apple blossoms, etc.

Re: flowering trees
Are you talking about apple trees? I thought they were difficult to take care of, since they're so vulnerable to worms and other unwanted pests.
We've got a giant lemon tree in our backyard. Are there any recipes for hermit crabs that make much use of lemons?

Re: flowering trees
Lemon probably won't be a big hit, but you can offer it to them once the peel has dried out because the volatile oils in the rind are still of some concern.
Apple tree blossoms and Crabapple tree blossoms are both liked well. In my part of the country (USA) it is dry and we grow both kinds of trees without much maintenance. Some years they produce well and other times they don't. The apples will definitely get worms. If you harvest, you'll have to ensure that the tree has not been sprayed. If it hasn't, the apples will be badly damaged by worms. It is a difficult job to prepare them for pies because all of the worm holes have to be cut away.

Re: flowering trees
we have an apple tree blooming in our backyard. i don't think it's been sprayed with anything since we've been there (12 years). If it hasn't, could it be safe for me to give to the hermies?

Re: flowering trees
yes. the blossoms are awesome, so is the fruit. the leaves and bark, well, I have often offered them but I've never noticed any crabs going crazy over leaves and bark.
