Mixture of foods
I bought a hole bunch of stuff (like hermit crab food, hermit crab treats, dried fruits and vegtables, nuts, cuttle bone{ground up},baby dried shrimp, and fish food, mixed it all together, put some of it in a small container for everyday use, and the rest in the freezer. My crab seem to like it, they get a variety, and the calicum and vitamins they need. It cost me about 15 to 20 dollors, but it made a lot so it should last a while. I made sure when I put it in the freezer I place it in a bag, took the air out, then in a coffee container so it don't get freezer burnt. It thought I'd pass this on to you all. It's worked great for me, hope it works out good for all of you also.

Well, that's one thing you've got to do is go with what works!
Just beware of feeding commercial food without supplimenting w/ fresh foods too. Even a high-quality commercial food that doesn't contain any harmful preservatives doesn't allow a crab to pick and choose what his body needs at a particular time. Their dietary needs change according to what is going on w/ their bodies and w/ their environment. Example: they need more calcium post-molt. But it doesn't end there. They may have seasonal needs, activity levels may create a need for muscle building proteins and other nutrients related to growth, etc. It is kinda complicated, and our knowledge is limited. The one thing we do know is that hermit crabs have very good instincts about what to eat and when and how much, so if they're offered a good variety, then they'll eat what they need.
One thing I feel strongly about is offering leaves and bark and blossoms (from your yard if you don't use pesticides or commercial fertilizers).
