They can stay down for months when they molt. I know my crabs each take up a month to molt ;)
It depends on the size. It can take 1 week or 2 months, anything.
Crabs are confusing sometimes!

When they are digging for fun tehy (mine) usualy stay down for less than a day, that's just my hermies. They aren't much of diggers, anyways.

see, that's what i thought. however, now all 3 of my crabs (all small) are underground. Lemi has stayed under, in his shell, for almost 3 days, then he'll come up for a while, then he's digging again. Bebe has also been digging lately and she too has been under for a couple days. Now my newest, Shelley, has also been burying herself. when i first got Lemi and Bebe, neither one dug. now they're both digging. i don't know what they're doing.

they could be molting. I know all my hermeis that are "friends" molt at the same time!! Or they could just be digging.
Crabs... ^)
Do any of the have dull exos? Cloudy eyes? Do tehy seem less active or anything? Eating more? Drinking more??

none have cloudy eyes. lemi looks lighter in color, bebe and shelley don't. whenever lemi comes up out of the sand he goes straight to the sponge, does that qualify as drinking more? shelley doesn't stay under for longer than a day. bebe hasn't been digging as much this past weekend. her and lemi were extremely active before they started digging, always on the move. now when i see lemi come up, he moves slower. my boyfriend has them right now until i come back home for spring break. he knows the signs and is looking for them. this possible molting thing makes me nervous. Tweek had grey eyes and was less active, so I put him in ISO. a few weeks later, he climbed out of his shell and sadly passed away. so Lemi's possible molt i want to be perfect, so i'm a nervous wreck. :S

i can understand how nerve racking that must be!! i hope all you possibl molts go well!!! :D
I have had 5 molts (i think, or maybe it is 6). 1 was a surface molt, but still went really well. My last molt was kinda screwed up. My crab came up with white spots on him, i thik he had a lack of some sort of mineral. I have been doing more research on the mineral area for them so i think i go it covered better now so it won't happen agian! I have been feeding more meat and calcium....okay, osrry, i got off subject. *|

i've tried putting shrimp, shrimp tail and chicken in, but neither one went over well. the crabs go nuts over fruit, especially grapes. but none of the meats, that i've tried, they touch. any suggestions?

Are you sure they just are not eating as much as the friut? I can't even tell when my crabs eat fresh prepared food, but they are still living so they must be eating it! I could always tell when they ate comercial food (which i don't use anymroe because of EQ).

Just put in very little meat so you aren't wasting it. Have a seperate dish of meat with like, 3 peices in it so you will know if anyone ieats anything (or somethign like that!)

that's a good idea. so just put a few pieces of meat, veggies, or fruit in a separate dish and see if they eat it? wish i had thought of that. :P i'll just leave it in there for a day or so and see what happens. i knwo that when i put their regular food in there, i never see them on it. however, when i put the fruit in there, Lemi especially, is always on it.

OKay, tell me hot it goes (i would just leave it in for a day so it doesn't get moldy)
