I bought my sphagnum moss from this eBay listing.
I wasn't sure if it was safe to begin with, but I haven't had any problems so far with it after a few months. My hermit crabs now prefer sitting and digging in the moss rather than touching the sand.
The moss comes in a thin sheet, but you'll be surprised by how much it expands once you add water to it! You might want to cut the sheet in half and just wet one half of it to see how much it expands for you.
