I have noticed that after one night of dried food, the food tends to end up all over the sand, or there ends up being a lot of sand/poo in it. That's why I change it so often. If there was absolutely no interest in it, I leave it in another night. It's rare at this point (with Spaz on the surface) that there is no interest in food though.

And if they eat it all, you didn't feed enough. You always want to have a little something left behind.

Remember, their appetites change and they eat like crazy in pre-molt. So you have to be aware of their rate of consumption.
