Dead or moulted?

ok so if anyone had read my other post i mentioned i was worried about the second hermit crab. well he was walking around last night and this morning not moving...!!! he is half out of his shell but when i pick him up he didnt fall out i just put him back down and i checked no fishey smell.... i just feel like im doing something wrong not taking care of them correctly i dont know what to do not sure if he is dead or not

What happens if you touch his claw? If he doesn't flinch, then I'm afraid he may have passed on.

im sad to report that he passed on im determined now ... i think the store where they were bought has very poor conditions so they were just too far gone when we got them and they give horrible advice when telling you how to care for them the new guys are doing great still kicking eating and running around thru the night

Sorry to hear about your lose. Glad to hear that your other one is doing well though. Sometimes they go through to much before we get them and no matter how much love and care we give them it is not gonna matter.

I read yor answer regarding dead or moulting. How do I tell what is his abdomen? He is completely out of the shell and his color is still good. We have placed him in a quite room with a towel over and I drizzled him with a very small amount of water. We just got him a few weeks ago from a store at the beach. We still have him in the mesh cage, we are in the process of getting a tank to place them in. I have not noticed an odor yet. How long should I wait, unfortunately we dont have a great deal of sand in the bottom, just a small amount. We are new to this but are really trying.
