Re: I NEED RECIPIES+ I WILL SHARE MINE
I love recipes and if you like them all kept neatly in one place you should get the hermit crab recipe book from the addiction store. It was one of the first items I purchased at the store and I use it all the time. They also share recipes for free at epicureanhermit.com. People post pictures of the food they create and also post pics of the crabs eating their recipes! I think you would enjoy it crazycrabgal. I haven't been on the site in quite a while so I think I'll take a look today.

Re: I NEED RECIPIES+ I WILL SHARE MINE
Make sure you give the crab a balanced diet. The "food groups" that most owners abide by are:
1. Fruit - fresh or dried, most any fruit is crab safe
2. Vegetables - green beans (not from a can), carrots, broccoli, celery (the baby yellowish leaves are a big hit with mine)
3. Protein - arguably one of the two most important food groups for your crab...unseasoned cooked (to avoid microbial outbreaks) beef, shrimp, chicken, turkey, even dried insects for fish (with no preservatives like Ethoxyquin or Copper Sulphate), scrambled egg with the shell scrambled in it for the added calcium
4. Calcium/Chitin - calcium can come from eggshells, calcisand, ground oyster shells, and shellfish with the tail/exo still on (i.e. shrimp tails)
5. Cellulose - supplement any natural cellulose sources in your tank (driftwood, grapevine, etc.) with things like pesticide-free maple or oak leaves
6. Flowers - the most common ones I've seen that are safe and available for crabs are calendula, blue violet, blue malva, chamomile, hibiscus, rose, chickweed, cornflowers, honeysuckle, jasmine, rose, and sunflowers; these contain coloring compounds to help your crabs stay bright and colorful as well as vital minerals and vitamins
7. "Other plant parts" - this is my category that includes things such as clover leaves, dandelion leaves/root, red root, etc. This also contains the seeds that I have, like chia seeds, red roobios, etc.
8. Nuts/grains - these often contain vital oils for your crab; includes sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, walnuts, pecans, etc.
9. Sea veggies - kelp, seaweed, and spirulina algae powder are all things your crab will eat in the wild; they are considered "superfoods" that many crabs go nuts over
10. Worm castings - not a necessity but they're like hermit crab crack - mine go nuts over them; they provide all sorts of organic compounds broken down into digestible forms for your crabs
11. Bee products - this is more of a treat for my crabs; it consists of bee pollen and honey that I give on occasion.
It's also good to occasionally give your crab food drizzled with essential oils, like fish oil, palm oil, EV olive oil, or sesame oil. They need them in very small doses.
And before you freak out about how much stuff that list has, you can get on the Hermit Crab Addiction website - http://www.hermitcrabaddictionstore.com/ and buy the "Can I have a taste" packs (there are 4 of them altogether) for $3 apiece and get all of these food groups and more for just a few dollars...plus Vicki always throws in samples! I bought one of the "original" packs in September (I think it was) and even with my 6 crabs I still have tons of it left. I reconstitute some of it, I offer some of it dry. Whatever I feel like that day.

Re: I NEED RECIPIES+ I WILL SHARE MINE
If you are REALLY serious about this recipe thing, I know a great one I came up with one day and they love it!
1. Crush up some cornflakes (Ones without sugar) and mix it with some honey.
2. Then add some washed grass (Only a small amount depending on how many crabs you have) and some self raising flower. No measurment just whatever your heart desires, also because I don't know how much you are making.
3. Add a small amount of water and put it in the oven for around 20 mins at 200 degrees.
It will make a delicious pie!!!!!!!

At the hermit crab addiction store. Here is a link to the "Can I have a taste" products page.
Also, self-rising flour is bad for crabs. It contains human-grade salt, which as we all know isn't safe for crabs. It also contains baking powder, but if the baking powder is aluminum-free, it would be okay for the crabs.
