Sometimes crabs will avoid tomato and citrus, but that is not because it is unsafe. I believe it is recommended that the orange rind be left out to dry so the volatile oils dissapate before the crabs will show much interest in them. I just take off the rind and give it to them that way usually. Lots of fruits are high in acids--especially pineapple, but crabs love pineapple.
