I need information
I am thinking about geting my first hermit crab (land) and I need information, I have had a hard time finding anything. Is prepared food good anough for them or do I have to buy it other things? Should I provide it with a salt water and a fresh water bowl? Would sand with calcium in it be anough for the amount of calcium it needs or should I provide something else. Anyother information you can give me would be welcomed.Thanks.

Look at the post called 'What Can I Feed My Hermit Crab' under this same section (food and nutrition) and there are some other posts on how your hermits need salt water, and proper humidity and stuff. But it is really good that you are asking before you get them.
Try this site... its pretty good at explaining some of the basics... then you can ask more specific questions.

You can mix calcium with the sand (or products such as Calci-Sand which already is a mixture of sand and calcium), but you will also need to give them calcium-rich food. I know when many people here the word 'calcium', they will think of milk. Well, dairy products can be harmful to hermit crabs, since they do not have access to dairy in the wild. When choosing your dishs, try getting the rock pool dishes. They are easy to climb in and out of, and also serve as a 'toy' for your hermit crabs to climb on. Also, don't just adopt one hermit crab. he'll be very lonely. Get him at least one friend, or even better, two friends!
