What we mean by 'saltwater' is like the water from the ocean. Hermit crabs need some salt in their shell water, but don't use table salt! It contains iodine. Most pet shops do sell aquarium salt, which is the salt you need. Not table salt!
Did you only adopt one hermit crab? He'll be very lonely without friends! Try adopting one or two more to keep him in company. In the wild, hermit crabs can live up to groups of 100 crabs, travelling together in search of food and water.

Saltwater??
I have been using bottled saltwater made especially for hermies that I purchase at our local pet shop. I cannot think of the brand right off the top of my head but I will post it tomorrow for anyone who is interested.
