RED CRABS
Yeah, I meant to reply to your post, but I assumed from your crab's bright color that you had straws. Ooops.
Watermelon and banana don't have a whole lot of color enhancing components. Darker things like seaweeds, dandelion leaves, etc. give them color intensity. There's a list of these, but I'll need to look for it.

color
Ooops. I was replying to you, but thought your red/purple crab was a straw. My bad.
Banana and watermelon don't have much tannin or carotein which are some color-enhancing substances. Try seaweeds and dandelion leaves (things that are really dark) also cilantro and maple leaves.

Yah the crab we are talking about is my avatar pic. I can see why you thought though...he's all red accept for a hint of purple on his big pincher.

palm oil
Hey, just learned something cool about a product (EXTRA VIRGIN PALM OIL) that I got from
http://stores.ebay.com/The-Happy-Hermit-Crab
Wikapedia says that Palm Oil is red because it has beta-carotein which improves color of crabs. I don't think that can be said of many types of oil.
