jalapeno food trial

Post by Jedi_Sena »

Someone from another forum is doing a food trial on jalapeno. I guess she tossed in a slice just to see and one of the crabs carried it off and ate on it for an hour. She even has photos of him eating it. The next day he was fine, but her trial isn't over yet. But it looks like something we thought would be very harmful may be safe after all. Too soon to tell at this point. . . .

jalapeno

Yeah, I think that the idea scared everyone away from trying it. But she is the gal that sells organic hermit crab on eBay so she is always on the lookout for ways to expand and offer a wide variety of safe foods. I don't think I've seen her on this site, but she's well-known on the Hermit Crab Association forums. In fact she is working to develop a hermit crab "salsa mix" and that's probably how she worked up the courage to try the jalapeno!

HOT

Well, someone suggested that some animals don't have the receptors to detect that spicy hot sensation so they can eat it without the uncomfortable effects that humans experience. I'm sure their mouth parts aren't as sophisticated as ours are!

well the seeds and core are the hottest part of the pepper, the carragenan (i think is how it's spelled) is the vitamin in the skin of the pepper. wow...i'm learning things in my cooking class. how interesting. anyway, i agree with jedi. hermies will eat anything, i doubt a lot will phase them. keep us posted on how her hermies are doing after the pepper!
