naked molter - Tonka

Post by Jedi_Sena »

Well, Tonka ditched his shell and did a surface molt 8 inches away while I was out sick. He looks as if he has just pulled out from the exo since he is in the same position as it is, just further back, laying on his side. He isn't dead because I've seen him move a bit. I bumped up the humidity a bit, covered the tank w/ a towel for privacy and set a cocohut over him and a shell of fresh water nearby. I will iso the rest of the gang shortly. This isn't my first surface molt, but the others were PPs and looked fresh and pink. Tonka is an E and looks gross, so I'm a bit concerned. He has molted w/ me before and come up fine, but I don't think he looks quite right. I don't have a camera today or I'd post a photo.

gross defined

His exo came off cleanly, but his color looks marbled or mottled light to dark. Maybe that is just his guts since he is wet. I guess I will know more tomorrow and might be able to get a photo up.

i've never had a surface molter. that's really awesome that you got to kind of see him do that! i always wanted to watch a molter, but they always bury themselves away from the sides lol.

Tonka dead

Post by Jedi_Sena »

Tonka was found dead this morning. Upon close inspection of his corpse, I realized that much more of his exo remained on his abdomen. I think I've read that this is a nutrient deficiency of some sort, like iodine (?) Anyone else hear this?

i am so sorry for your lose. it's harder for me when they come out of their shells and die rather than stay curled up inside. tweek did that, i was holding token when he just fell apart in my hand, that was tough too.
